Complete the following steps to create and lodge a new STP report:
- On the STP Reports page, click the “New STP report” button
(Note: You will need to verify your STP1 and/or STP2 details in your Settings before you can lodge the report)
Step 1: Prepare your report data
- Select the Event type. This is the type of STP report you will upload.
- Select Pay event when you are creating an STP report that is part of your regular pay run.
- Select Update event if you need to correct information reported in a pay event (outside of your regular pay run).
- Upload the STP file and click 'Next'. The first time you upload an STP1 or STP2 file, you will be prompted to verify your STP1/ STP2 details. These details will be saved for all future STP report submissions. If the file uploaded is incorrect, click 'Replace' to remove the STP file.
Step 2: Review your report data
Validation errors
- On the Review screen:
- If your file has errors, you will be shown an error screen that displays the number of errors and where and what the errors are. The errors are grouped by organisation name and employee name. Alternatively you can group by error type.

You can click on the “+” and “-” icons to expand and contract the details of the error, or click “Expand all” to expand all groupings and see all errors.
You must correct all the errors in your file, and go ‘Back’ to re-upload. If the file has no errors, you will see a summary of the STP report.
No validation errors
- If there are no errors in the file you uploaded, you will see a summary of the STP report including number of employers and employees, and a breakdown of totals including the grand total. Check that all details are correct, then click 'Next'.
Step 3: Lodge your report
- To lodge your report you must read and sign the declaration. tick the box to sign and click ‘Lodge’.
Clicking the 'Lodge' button will submit your STP data to the ATO.
Success receipt
- Once your report has been lodged successfully, you will see the success screen with details of the submission. Clients can print confirmation of the submission by clicking the 'Print' button.
STP reports table
When you return to the STP reports screen, you will see that the status of your lodgement is 'Sending to ATO'.
When the ATO has received the submission, the status will change to 'Waiting for response'.
The ATO will return a response and the status to will update to one of the following:
- Complete
- Complete with warnings
- Complete with errors
- Failed

STP reports table definitions
The below table of definitions refer to the columns listed underneath the STP Reports menu.

Process ID | The unique identifier number used by the Wrkr platform for an uploaded file |
Submission ID | This is a critical element used by the ATO to identify the PAYEVNT and the payee income statements updated by that STP report. It is visible in online services for Business to allow payers to discreetly identify their reports. It must be unique across your ABN, Branch ID and BMS identifier regardless of whether the lodgement is pay event or update event. If requesting a full file replacement, use the submission ID of the initial PAYEVNT lodgement being replaced. |

STP report statuses
The below table of definitions refer to the statuses that reflect the progress of a STP report. After the report is submitted, an email notification will be triggered depending on which status is returned. See Email Notifications below for more detail.

STP report is automatically saved as a draft at any point before lodgement. If you do not lodge the report within 24 hours, it will be automatically archived. | |

Email Notifications
An email will be sent to the company’s lodgement notification email address when an STP report submitted to the ATO has reached any of the following states:
- Waiting for ATO response
- Complete
- Complete with warnings
- Complete with error
- Failed
The file name and a direct link marked as 'View' to the report are displayed in the email notifications.
Detailed/Timeline view
From the STP Reports menu, clients are able to click the Process ID listed for their STP Report submission for a detailed view with a timeline of all the events that have occurred in relation to the report.
Settings
Verify STP details
Clients will need to verify and edit your Product ID and BMS details for STP1 and STP2 within the Settings menu. These are a mandatory requirement of the ATO to provide these details before a STP submission can be completed. If you do not know these details, please contact your payroll software provider - we are unable to provide these details to you.
STP1 and STP2 details may be different depending on individual client configuration, so clients will need to verify these details separately.
To verify and edit your STP details, please click on the Settings menu, then STP details and complete the details requested.
Miscellaneous
Large file processing
If the STP file being uploaded is very large, you will be redirected back to the STP Reports table whilst the file is processing. When it is ready the status will change to ‘Draft’ and you can resume completing the lodgement of the STP report.
