Unable to verify SMSF member is an error from the ATO from which they have located a discrepancy between the data being used and the data held with the ATO.
The issue relating to SMSF member (not just SMSF) is likely one of the following:
-
the individual’s TFN is not linked to SMSF
-
the individual’s TFN is compromised
-
ATO holds a date of death for the individual
This is obtained from the following link:

It is likely related to the TFN - so I would recommend checking that the TFN listed in the SMSF Hub are correct for the appropriate member and match anything that is recorded with the ATO. Government names can also be the issue - if the TFN is not recorded with the correct name specifically or there is a discrepancy, this can also cause the problem. To update the name in the SMSF Hub portal, please go to the Members and Trustees/ Directors menu and click on the name of the member in question. From here, details recorded with the SMSF Hub portal for the member are displayed. If you cannot see DOB and TFN details, please change the role to 'Trustee' so they all display. If there are any discrepancies between the details shown in the SMSF Hub and with the ATO, it will likely cause an error.
