Welcome!
Thank you for registering for the wrkr ESA and SMSF Hub portal to manage your SMSF SuperStream compliance - we are happy to have you on board!
The wrkr ESA and the SMSF Hub portal can be used to receive contribution data from employers. process or receive rollovers in and out of your SMSF and respond to release authorities from the ATO. The wrkr ESA and SMSF Hub portal are fully SuperStream compliant.
We encourage all SMSF clients to read the following overview, especially if wanting to process a rollover. Clients that do not read the overview are more likely to experience rollover delays or encounter issues with receiving superannuation contributions from their employer so we hope that this helps you navigate the process.
Information of note:
- The wrkr ESA (electronic service address) is the word wrkrSMSF - it is not a number or an email address. Confirmation of our compliance with the ATO can be found here.
- To reach out for support, please contact our Support Team at support@wrkr.com.au
- The SMSF Hub portal can be logged into at https://smsf.wrkr.com.au/
- An ESA does not process any payments - only SuperStream compliant data. This means that if a contribution payment or a rollover is expected but not yet received, the appropriate employer or superfund is the best party to follow up with for assistance. We do not have authority to follow up with the ATO on behalf of your SMSF.
- A list of our frequently asked questions and answers can be found here.
- We have a partner program designed for accountants, advisers and tax agents that want to use the wrkrSMSF ESA and SMSF Hub to manage their SMSF clients. If you would like more information please contact us directly.
I have registered - what do I do now?
Majority of SMSF clients will have registered for the wrkr ESA with a particular reason in mind - either to receive contributions, process rollovers or release authorities, or a mix of all three! What is needed from a SuperStream perspective to configure each scenario differs however. To learn more, please jump to the relevant section below:
Contributions
Rollovers
Release Authorities
Contributions:
Contributions is the easiest to set up and get started for a SMSF. If you have a new employer, have recently created a SMSF or have simply changed ESA providers to wrkr, you will need to provide the ESA of wrkrSMSF to any employers that will be remitting superannuation to your SMSF.
If the ESA is not provided to all relevant employers, wrkr will not receive all related contribution data for superannuation paid to your SMSF. In this scenario, wrkr is unable to provide reports or display any information within the SMSF Hub portal for any contribution data not received.
If you are only using the ESA for contributions, the ESA doesn't need to be provided to the ATO. However we strongly recommend providing the ESA to the ATO in case you need to process a rollover or release authority in future. For more information on updating the ESA with the ATO please see here.
Contributions checklist:
Mandatory:
Advise all employers remitting superannuation to the SMSF of the ESA wrkrSMSF
Recommended:
Advise the ATO of the ESA wrkrSMSF in case you need to do a rollover or release authority in future.
Rollovers:
To process rollovers via SuperStream, some configuration is required to set everything up prior to initiating a rollover. This is due to the safeguards implemented by the ATO to verify that a rollover is being processed by authorised parties. Whilst this ensures a secure and robust system, it also presents challenges for clients due to the steps required. Because of this, we strongly recommend that clients ensure that sufficient time is allowed for the following to be completed before initiating a rollover.
If the following mandatory steps are not completed before a rollover is initiated, any rollovers attempted will fail.
Rollovers checklist:
Mandatory:
The following need to be provided or updated with the ATO:
- ESA of wrkrSMSF
- SMSF Bank account details are up to date
Discrepancies between what is recorded with the ATO and what is used to initiate a rollover will cause a failure. For more information on updating the ESA with the ATO please see here.
For clients processing a roll out, it is also mandatory for the Software ID (SSID) to be provided to the ATO. For clients processing a roll in, the Software ID is not mandatory. For more information on finding your Software ID and updating it with the ATO please see here.
Creating members for your SMSF in the SMSF Hub portal. Rollovers cannot be initiated within the SMSF Hub portal without the member of the rollover added first. Please see our guide on creating members here.
Recommended:
Any clients processing a roll in to provide the Software ID to the ATO in case a roll out is needed in future.
Once all points of the mandatory checklist have been actioned, a rollover can be initiated through the SMSF Hub, through the other sending/ receiving superfund or through the ATO within the mygov portal. It doesn't matter which party initiates the rollover.
To learn more about rollovers, please see our Rollovers Overview guide.
For a walkthrough on processing a rollover please see our Processing Rollovers Walkthrough guide.
Release Authorities
If the ATO has an ESA recorded for your SMSF, any release authorities issued for the release of a member's superannuation will be sent to your ESA provider. If a release authority is received by wrkr on behalf of your SMSF, it will appear under the 'Rollovers' menu within the SMSF Hub portal. Clients cannot initiate a release authority to the ATO - the ATO need to first issue the authorisation for the SMSF to respond to.
Release Authorities checklist:
Mandatory:
Update the ATO with the ESA of wrkrSMSF. For more information on updating the ESA with the ATO please see here.
